2021, Corton Bressandes Grand Cru

Protected in theory by bougies but they hardly made a difference. 300 litres produced only in 0.22ha. Mid crimson red. Here the oak scarcely shows because there is adequate fruit concentration, albeit not much detail as yet. Delicious fruit on the palate, dark raspberry with some lifted strawberry notes behind, fills the mouth and kept fresh by the right level of acidity. Fine boned and very persistent. Drink from 2026-2033. Tasted: October 2022. 91-93 points



2021, Pommard Les Chanlins Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru

One of the paler colours, red fruit and oak together. The oak is slightly taking the foreground at the moment. Simple and slightly sweet cherry raspberry fruit. Two barrels, one of them one year old. Drink from 2025-2030. Tasted: October 2022. 87-90 points



2021, Volnay Clos de la Chapelle 1er Cru

2.5 barrels, with no new wood. 15% whole bunch vinification. A pale mid crimson. Soft strawberry fruit on the nose. The palate offers quite a volume of fruit, a more austere raspberry alongside the strawberry, and some white pepper to finish. Even the small amount of whole bunch vinification makes its presence felt. A fresh finish with good length. Drink from 2026-2032. Tasted: October 2022. 91-93 points



2021, Volnay Taillepieds 1er Cru

3.5 barrels were made, with one third whole bunches. There is a light reduction and a little barrel toast currently slightly interrupting the fruit on the nose. A little touch of acidity at the back. The fruit is slightly raw with some orange zest alongside the red fruit. Good persistence, helped by the stems. Drink from 2026-2031. Tasted: October 2022. 88-91 points



2021, Volnay En Carelle 1er Cru

Fine mid crimson. Rather an attractive nose with some brambly red fruit. Cherries too and a little bit of raspberry, some wood tannins behind but the lively fruit turns up again behind. Two barrels made. Drink from 2026-2032. Tasted: October 2022. 89-92 points



2021, Volnay 1er Cru 

The young vines of Taillepieds. Mid purple, slightly reductive. Quite dense on the palate with a good acid balance, a mixed red berry fruit. Not the same persistence as the older vines cuvees. 2 barrels made. Drink from 2025-2030. Tasted: October 2022. 87-89 points



2021, Beaune Champs Pimont 1er Cru

7 barrels made with one new and one in ceramic egg. Mid crimson, a pretty cherry fruit on the nose, adequate volume on the palate but this is never a powerful wine. Alpine strawberries with good acidity and really quite persistent. Pure rather than rustic. Drink from 2026-2031. Tasted: October 2022. 89-92 points



2021, Beaune Les Teurons 1er Cru

From the upper part of Le Bas des Teurons. 2 barrels made, which is in fact a full crop having pulled some out. Fresh mid crimson. A little red fruit on the nose, but not demonstrative. Tighter on the palate, with some tannins to finish, but the fruit is attractive and harmonious. Drink from 2026-2031. Tasted: October 2022. 89-91 points


White Wines
2021, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

Thes vines were late starters and so mostly escaped frost, hence 40 hl/ha. Sorted to remove a small amount of oidium. 2 new barrels in 7. Fresh glowing lemon colour. The bouquet is powerful and as yet undeveloped. This has structure and some weight, a light lime touch, a biscuity note from the barrel, quite strict and very backward. Some fresh apples reappear at the back. Dormant but promising. Drink from 2027-2035. Tasted: October 2022. 92-96 points



2021, Pernand-Vergelesses Sous Frétille 1er Cru

Pretty pale lemon and lime. A much more convincing nose, more tightly knit as well as being fruit dominant with less evident oak. Notably lemony on the palate with low key apple and white fruit behind, a light biscuity touch from the barrel, clean and reasonably persistent. Drink from 2025-2030. Tasted: October 2022. 89-91 points



2021, Beaune Les Reversées 1er Cru, Domaine Clos de la Chapelle

Protected by bougies but no use – young vines in chardonnay were particularly at risk. Pale lemon and lime. Some sweet oakiness on the nose. Coconut notes with a lactic touch. Some cooked citrus to finish. Not sure where this will be going.. Tasted: October 2022. 87-89 points
